Canada’s tariff list targets US cosmetics, snails, and lawn mowers

Canada has imposed retaliatory tariffs on over 700 US products worth C$27.6 billion, targeting everyday goods and niche items beyond major industries. The measures, ranging from 15-50 per cent, take effect September 8. The list includes 25 per cent tariffs on toilet paper, paper towels, hockey sticks, smoked lobster, ornamental fish and live snails, plus 15-25 per cent on lawn mowers and 50 per cent on cosmetics. These duties aim to pressure US manufacturers and regional exporters. Finance Minister François-Philippe Champagne called it a "dollar-for-dollar" response to Washington's tariffs. Canada also announced C$7.5 billion in support for affected businesses and workers.
