Ontario threatens to cut power for 1.5 million US homes over tariffs

Ford stated he is ready to lead such a measure but requires a coordinated approach with other Canadian provinces, as Ontario is not the sole electricity supplier. The threat comes amid a full-scale trade war. The US imposed 50% tariffs on roughly $20 billion of Canadian goods, prompting Prime Minister Mark Carney to announce retaliatory tariffs starting September 8. The dispute follows failed negotiations on August 21.
