US President Donald Trump said Wednesday it was "time to teach Canada you can't do this anymore," days after trade talks between the neighboring countries collapsed, escalating a tariff dispute. Trump imposed new 50 percent tariffs on US$20 billion of Canadian imports Saturday after talks broke down, and Canada retaliated Tuesday with matching duties on about US$20 billion of US goods, effective Sep 8. Trump also announced 50 percent tariffs on Canadian autos and parts effective Jan 1.
