Housing protesters keep Lisbon camp after assembly vote
Housing rights protesters have maintained their camp in Lisbon's Rossio square after a popular assembly voted to continue, extending demonstrations against housing policies that also continue in Porto's D. João I square. The Saturday assembly led to dozens of tents being pitched, marking the first return since Thursday's police raid that dismantled the camp and injured 39 people, including one officer. Protesters organized cleaning duties to prevent city authorities from using sanitation as grounds to remove them. Volunteers divided into task groups, collecting recyclables to fund food supplies. One participant, Diana Lourenço, joined Thursday night and described paying "an enormous price for a room." The movement scheduled another popular assembly for noon.
