Lisbon housing protests amplify citizens' voices in popular assembly
Housing protests in Lisbon featured nearly three hours of citizen testimonies at a popular assembly, where individuals shared personal stories of hardship and common demands for the right to housing. Speakers included Marta, a domestic violence victim facing eviction and rent arrears, and Neusa, who struggled to rent with one salary. Others like João Guedes criticized tourism and the government's proposed rent law, while Bruno, living on the street, framed the fight as one for human dignity. The Casa para Viver platform organized the event in Dom Pedro IV square, where tents have been set up since Saturday. Organizers called for participation in further protests scheduled for October 27 and November 14 in Lisbon.
