Zelenskyy sees Democratic Congress as chance for more US aid to Ukraine
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy expressed hope that Democratic gains in the US midterm elections will bring more aid for Kyiv, as European officials urged the new Congress to pressure Russia to end the four-and-a-half-year war. Democrats won control of both the Senate and the House, rebuking President Donald Trump. Zelenskyy said Democrats speak clearly about supporting Ukraine, and more US aid could impact Russian President Vladimir Putin. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas called for continued support and joint pressure on Russia. Some European leaders were skeptical of change, citing Trump's history of bypassing Congress. Meanwhile, Trump's envoy Steve Witkoff plans to bring Ukrainian and Russian delegations together in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11 to discuss ending the war.
