Putin envoy joins Melania Trump at White House to mark Oleshky ceasefire
Russian President Vladimir Putin's envoy Kirill Dmitriev appeared with first lady Melania Trump at the White House on Thursday to mark the localized ceasefire she brokered between Russia and Ukraine, thanking her for her "distinguished humanitarian role." President Trump did not attend the event. Dmitriev said Putin personally gave instructions for the operation and sent his thanks to Melania Trump. Ukrainian officials, including Davyd Arakhamia and Dmytro Lubinets, also spoke at the event honoring the ceasefire signed Oct. 23. The six-day truce in the Russian-occupied village of Oleshky, effective Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, allowed humanitarian aid delivery and evacuation of over 750 people, marking the most significant pause since Russia's full-scale invasion began 4½ years ago.
