Trump says Ukraine and Russia both want a deal to end war
US President Donald Trump expressed optimism that Ukraine and Russia are ready to reach an agreement to end the war, though Ukrainian negotiators do not share his confidence. In an interview with the Financial Times, Trump said both sides are prepared to say "let's make a deal." He also compared the conflict to other wars, stating the US is not at war with Iran as it was with Ukraine or during the World Wars. Trilateral technical talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the US are scheduled for November 10-11 in Abu Dhabi, with Vladimir Medinsky leading the Russian delegation. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted Europe's presence in some format, while German Chancellor Friedrich Merz warned Europe needs a seat at the negotiating table.
