Melania Trump hosts Russia and Ukraine at White House for peace talks
US First Lady Melania Trump hosted Russian and Ukrainian representatives at the White House on Thursday, urging them to turn a temporary ceasefire in the occupied city of Oleshky into a more durable peace agreement. The six-day truce, which expired Sunday, allowed humanitarian aid deliveries and the evacuation of nearly 800 civilians from the Kherson region city. Melania Trump said the cooperation between Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky set a precedent and prepared personal letters for both presidents. Ukraine awarded Melania Trump the Order of Princess Olga, First Class, for her role in facilitating the ceasefire. Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev thanked her on behalf of Putin, while President Donald Trump did not attend the meeting.
