Melania Trump urges lasting Ukraine-Russia peace after Oleshky ceasefire
Melania Trump called for a lasting peace between Ukraine and Russia following a ceasefire in Oleshky, urging both sides to build on the humanitarian operation's success. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky awarded her the Order of Princess Olga, First Class. During a White House meeting, Trump emphasized using the courage shown in Oleshky to find common ground, stating "together we can create something more durable than a temporary ceasefire." Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev said Putin personally directed the operation and thanked the First Lady, while also praising President Trump's peace efforts. The temporary ceasefire in Oleshky ran from October 27 to November 1, allowing the evacuation of nearly 800 people and delivery of aid. Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets expressed hope the operation becomes a model for future humanitarian missions, as trilateral talks are planned in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11.
