Melania Trump urges Russia and Ukraine to pursue sustainable ceasefire

delfi.lt (Serbian) —

US First Lady Melania Trump urged Russian and Ukrainian officials at the White House to pursue more sustainable ceasefire efforts in Ukraine, handing them personal letters addressed to Presidents Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump received the officials on Thursday, requesting they deliver the letters to their respective leaders. She cited the recent ceasefire near Russian-occupied Oleshky in Ukraine's Kherson region, brokered through her mediation, as a foundation for broader peace negotiations. Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriyev thanked Trump for her humanitarian role, while Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia attended the event. Trump received a state award from Ukraine's human rights ombudsman for her mediation, which enabled civilian evacuations and demining operations.
