Melania Trump Hosts Russian and Ukrainian Officials at White House, Urges Lasting Peace
First Lady Melania Trump hosted Russian and Ukrainian officials at the White House on Thursday, urging them to turn a brief, local ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky into a broader peace agreement. The meeting celebrated a six-day truce in Ukraine's Kherson region, which she helped broker, with nearly 800 people evacuated. Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev praised her humanitarian role, while Ukrainian officials awarded her the Order of Princess Olga and requested she continue her efforts. Fighting has since resumed in Oleshky, with one resident killed in a drone strike, and a Russian bomb attack in Zaporizhzhia killed 43 people. U.S., Ukrainian, and Russian delegations are scheduled to meet in Abu Dhabi on November 10-11 to discuss ending the war.
