Melania Trump Brokers Ceasefire in Oleshky, Hosts Putin Envoy at White House
Melania Trump hosted Russian President Vladimir Putin’s envoy Kirill Dmitriev and Ukrainian officials at the White House on Thursday to mark a six-day localized ceasefire she brokered in the Ukrainian village of Oleshky, with Dmitriev thanking her for her humanitarian role. The ceasefire, signed Oct. 23 and in effect from Oct. 27 to Nov. 1, allowed humanitarian aid delivery and evacuation of civilians from the besieged city, with nearly 800 people evacuated. Ukrainian officials Davyd Arakhamia and Dmytro Lubinets also spoke, praising the first lady’s efforts. Melania Trump has worked since last year to reunite families separated by the war, helping nearly three dozen children. She said she initiated talks after learning of Oleshky’s dire conditions, where residents face hunger and disease amid destroyed infrastructure.
