Zelensky Awards Melania Trump Ukraine's Top Honor for Women
Ukrainian President Zelensky has awarded US First Lady Melania Trump the highest Ukrainian honor for women, citing her mediating role in establishing a ceasefire in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky. The decree references her "significant personal contribution" to humanitarian support for Ukraine. Trump received the highest grade of the Order of Princess Olha, an award specifically for women, with previous recipients including Nancy Pelosi and Kaja Kallas. During the six-day truce, food and medicine reached the city, and nearly 800 people were evacuated, according to Trump. The ceasefire was the longest local pause in fighting since Russia's 2022 invasion, and both Russian and Ukrainian authorities thanked Trump for brokering it. The award comes as Russian attacks on Kyiv caused power outages and a strike on Zaporizhzhia killed 40 people.
