Melania Trump hosts Ukraine and Russia at White House
Melania Trump is hosting Ukrainian and Russian representatives at the White House on Thursday, an event described by the White House as an "extraordinary moment in American history." The meeting follows her receiving a medal from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for her humanitarian contributions. Russian officials Kirill Dmitrijev and Yana Lantratova said they will attend "provided all logistical arrangements work," while Ukraine's human rights ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets announced he was traveling to Washington. The meeting comes after Zelenskyy's detailed phone call with US envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner regarding next week's peace talks in Abu Dhabi. Melania Trump is also scheduled to speak about a local ceasefire in Oleshky, which she reportedly negotiated. The six-day truce expired Sunday, with 800 people evacuated, and Russia declined to extend it. At least 40 people were killed in a recent attack on a Ukrainian aid center.
