Italian cities brace for protests from Milan to Castel Volturno
Protests are returning to Italian squares from Milan to Castel Volturno on Saturday, October 24, following last weekend's clashes. Organizers have cancelled previously announced meeting points, with new locations to be revealed shortly before the 2:30 PM start. In Milan, base unions will protest against the cost of living in the morning, while a pro-Palestine initiative is scheduled for the afternoon. Rome hosts a right-wing march at 10 AM and a national "Out of Italy from the war" demonstration at 2 PM, with the Circus Maximus no longer a gathering point. Turin, Genoa, Bologna, Padua, Verona, Florence, and Naples are also holding events. In Castel Volturno, thousands are expected to march against a proposed 120-bed migrant detention center (CPR), with regional president Roberto Fico anticipated to attend. The Movement of October 17 has revoked its initial locations nationwide, prompting police to prepare massive but flexible security measures due to uncertainty over where protesters will assemble.
