Tense Atmosphere at French Demonstrations

Thousands have gathered at Porte d’Italie in southeastern Paris for a demonstration organized by the student movement, unions, and the Yellow Vests, amid a tense atmosphere. Around 70,000 police and military have been mobilized nationwide following last weekend's riots. Many demonstrations have been denied permits, and activists are angered by the last-minute change of the march route, originally planned to start from the more central Bastille. Private security guards outside a grocery store have been ordered to close and keep people away if tensions escalate.
