Trump insists Strait of Hormuz remains open despite attacks

President Trump claimed the Strait of Hormuz remains "very functional" despite ongoing rocket and drone attacks, repeating his assertion that the vital oil waterway is open and fully demined. Iran's Revolutionary Guards said an agreement with Oman on dividing control of the strait and its revenues had been reached, but a senior Iranian source contradicted this, stating negotiations continue. The strait handled one-fifth of global oil shipments before the February war disrupted shipping. Oil prices fell on expectations the Iran-Oman talks might reopen the strait. Meanwhile, the USS Theodore Roosevelt is deploying to the Middle East for seven months, and Qatar's prime minister is visiting Tehran to pursue mediation.
