Iran and Oman agree to share Strait of Hormuz toll revenues

Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced Wednesday an agreement with Oman to share toll revenues from shipping in the Strait of Hormuz, despite U.S. pressure against the deal. The agreement covers territorial waters and revenue distribution between the two nations. Iran has blocked the strait since its war with the U.S. began on February 28, demanding Washington lift naval blockades, sanctions, and unfreeze assets before reopening. Foreign ministers met Tuesday in Tehran to discuss a temporary navigation corridor and demining process. Talks will continue on permanent administration, traffic management, and safety services for the waterway, which normally carries about one-fifth of global hydrocarbon exports.
