Iranian President: US Pressure Will Yield 'Nothing'

Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian warned Wednesday that the United States will gain "nothing" from its new economic pressures against the Islamic Republic, following Washington's threat of "asphyxiation." The US has vowed to cut off all of Iran's economic resources through new sanctions and threatened to isolate countries continuing to support Tehran. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the measures mark "the economic asphyxiation of this regime," while President Donald Trump claimed Iran's economy is collapsing and said he has "no timeline." Iran demands the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for an end to the war and lifting the US blockade. Tehran and Oman are negotiating a temporary corridor through the strait, though Iran accuses Washington of obstructing a permanent agreement.
