Iran and Oman Reach Partial Agreements on Strait of Hormuz Security

Iran's Revolutionary Guard announced Wednesday that "some agreements" were reached with Oman on security in the Strait of Hormuz, including sharing maritime traffic revenues, but negotiations will continue. The agreements cover each country's participation in the strait's waters and revenue sharing, according to Guard spokesman Hossein Mohebi, who accused Washington of obstructing the talks. The announcement followed Tuesday's meeting between Omani Foreign Minister Badr al-Busaidi and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran, with Muscat expecting a temporary maritime corridor announcement soon. The proposed corridor would include mine-clearing operations and exclude military vessels, with a permanent scheme to be negotiated within 30-60 days. The US has warned Oman against parts of the deal, while Washington and Tehran previously agreed to a June 17 memorandum that included a ceasefire and reopening of the strait, but returned to confrontation without finalizing a peace agreement.
