Ukrainian drones strike Russia's Ryazan oil refinery, sparking fire

Ukrainian drones attacked the Ryazan oil refinery, one of Russia's largest, early on September 6, causing a fire at the facility. The plant, part of Rosneft, was hit by FP-1 drones, with local officials confirming the blaze and no initial casualties. The attack also damaged a residential building in Ryazan and the Sapozhkovsky district, according to Governor Pavel Malkov. Separately, Rostov-on-Don was targeted, where three people were injured and seven passenger trains were delayed due to a damaged locomotive. The Ryazan refinery has a capacity of about 17 million tons of oil annually, producing gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and other products. This was not the first strike; Ukrainian forces previously hit the plant in May and late July 2026, damaging processing units.
