DNA evidence links GRU to Leipzig drone attack

DNA evidence from a failed drone attack at Leipzig/Halle airport on August 4 points directly to Russia's GRU military intelligence service, according to British media reports. The drone, carrying 600 grams of Semtex, struck a Ukrainian cargo plane but failed to detonate due to a defective fuse. German security expert Professor Peter Neumann called the genetic trace an "irrefutable proof" linking the Leipzig drone to a person suspected in the 2024 parcel bomb plot targeting Britain and Poland. The attack was only prevented by a vigilant airport bus driver who knocked the drone to the ground. The incident connects to a 2024 parcel bomb series originating from Vilnius, Lithuania, with 22 suspects identified in Poland and Lithuania, five currently on trial. A second surveillance drone also collided with a cargo plane, forcing an emergency landing in Hanover.
