Russia strikes Kyiv with ballistic missiles, damaging homes and sparking fires

Russia attacked Kyiv with ballistic missiles overnight into Tuesday, September 8, causing debris falls in multiple districts, damaging residential buildings, and sparking fires. A series of powerful explosions occurred in the city starting at 3:30 AM. Debris fell in the Solomiansky, Darnytsky, Holosiivsky, and Podilsky districts. In Holosiivsky, a fire broke out at an educational facility, and people were reportedly trapped in a residential building. In Solomiansky, debris hit a five-story residential building and damaged a three-story one, while a warehouse caught fire. A car was damaged in Darnytsky. Kyiv Mayor Vitaliy Klitschko confirmed emergency responses. Since September 6, Kyiv has used differentiated air alert levels: yellow for drone threats and red for missile or combined threats. This policy followed near-continuous Russian drone attacks on Kyiv starting August 27.
