Germany plans anti-sabotage shield after drone attack on airport

Germany is planning a comprehensive package of measures to strengthen its defenses against drone attacks, cyber intrusions, and other forms of Russian sabotage, following a failed drone attack on an airport last month. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt stated that hybrid attacks from Russia have become part of everyday reality. The plan includes expanding mobile police resources for drone defense, stationing rapid-response drone units in cities to protect airspace above critical transport hubs and government districts, and granting companies operating critical infrastructure legal authorization to actively detect and repel drones. A national "cyberdome" shield would also be established using a network of digital sensors. Russia has long rejected allegations of conducting operations in Western Europe and denied involvement in the airport attack. Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov called the accusations "the beginning of a real war," according to state news agency TASS. The government also intends to expand AI-supported technologies, biometric facial recognition, and video surveillance at locations like railway stations.
