The attack occurred during a drone strike on Sochi on September 4, which also triggered secondary detonations and a fire near a Russian S-300 or S-400 air defense system. The September 4 attack followed explosions at Sochi port on September 3. On September 6, Ukrainian drones also targeted the Ryazan oil refinery and Rostov-on-Don airfield, causing fires at both sites.
