Russia closes German consulate in St. Petersburg as diplomatic feud deepens

The decision follows Germany's September 1 announcement to close Russia's consulate in Bonn and terminate the Russian House agreement in Berlin. Lavrov also indicated Goethe-Institut offices in Russia would close, escalating the diplomatic dispute. Tensions stem from Berlin's accusation that Moscow was behind a drone attack attempt at Leipzig airport. Russia's foreign ministry called Germany's consulate closure "a step toward destroying relations" between the two countries.
