UAE hopes for Iran-US breakthrough but prepares for war
The United Arab Emirates expressed hope for a diplomatic breakthrough between Iran and the US while stating it is prepared for the worst-case scenario, as fears of a new war escalate in the region. Speaking at a security conference in Bahrain on Sunday, UAE presidential adviser Anwar Gargash said another round of war is not in the region's interest. Egypt and Saudi Arabia also voiced concerns about escalation, while Israeli opposition leader Yair Golan warned against continued leadership under Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Speculation has grown that the US and Israel may launch new strikes on Iran after upcoming elections. President Donald Trump said Saturday that one or two targets remain, while Iran warned any new war could last longer than the previous conflict and that Trump would not control its duration.
