Iran Signals Possible Resumption of Indirect Talks With US in Qatar

news.yahoo.co.jp (Japanese) —

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Saturday that an Iranian delegation has visited Doha, Qatar, which mediates between Tehran and Washington, signaling a possible resumption of indirect talks to end hostilities with the United States. Araghchi stated there are currently no direct meetings with US officials, and outlined conditions for full negotiations, including the unfreezing of assets, exemptions from US oil sanctions, and a ceasefire in Lebanon. He also demanded US recognition of a new shipping route in the Strait of Hormuz agreed with Oman. US Central Command chief General Michael Kurilla said on Friday that Washington has supported the transport of over 1.5 billion barrels of oil through the strait since summer, despite Iran's blockade. Iranian media reported that two fishing boats were attacked by US drones near Qeshm Island on Saturday, wounding one person, in what appears to be limited strikes over control of the waterway.
