Bahrain and UAE Push for Regional Security Deal With Iran as Gulf Tensions Rise
Bahrain called Sunday for a regional security framework open to Iran if Tehran respects sovereignty and renounces force, while the UAE voiced hope for a diplomatic breakthrough to avert renewed military confrontation. Speaking at the Manama Dialogue 2026, Bahraini Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani cited nearly 7,000 attacks on Gulf states and Jordan, and said about 1,600 vessels remained held up in the Strait of Hormuz. He urged enforcement of international law protecting maritime, aviation and digital infrastructure. UAE Diplomatic Adviser Anwar Gargash said the region was "braced for the worst" amid US-Iran tensions, as Qatar held consultations. Both officials stressed dialogue, economic integration and a Palestinian state settlement.
