Iran and Qatar Propose Two-Day Strait of Hormuz Reopening if US Meets Conditions
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said talks with Qatari mediators are ongoing on a proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if the US meets Tehran's conditions, according to Al Jazeera. Araghchi said the proposed implementation period was reduced from five days to two days during discussions. Iran's conditions include lifting sanctions imposed after the Islamabad memorandum, reducing US military forces in the region, restoring oil waivers, and releasing frozen Iranian funds, including those held in Qatar. The proposal follows a letter from US Vice President JD Vance delivered through Qatari mediators, which Iran described as a positive shift in tone. Iran's top security official Mohsen Rezaei reiterated that seven conditions must be met before talks can resume, warning of devastating blows using new weaponry if attacked.
