Iran’s top diplomat urges US to choose diplomacy over conflict
Iran's top diplomat said Sunday that ongoing diplomatic efforts to avert all-out war depend on U.S. responses to Iranian questions, expressing hope Washington chooses "diplomacy over other paths" and shows "rationality." Abbas Araghchi stated Iran is ready for both defense and diplomacy, with negotiators in Qatar discussing a proposal that could reopen the Strait of Hormuz within two days if U.S. conditions are met. No direct talks are occurring, he said. Separately, Israeli strikes killed eight people in Gaza, including a four-year-old boy, while Qatar's Nakilat reported one vessel struck in the Persian Gulf. The U.N. also sought investigation into a staffer's death in Houthi custody, and Iran designated British naval and air forces as terrorist organizations.
