Trump may launch major Iran operation if Republicans lose midterms

adevarul.ro (Romanian) —

A US official suggested President Donald Trump may be more willing to approve a large-scale military operation against Iran if Republicans suffer a severe defeat in the midterm elections, while Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has ordered military commanders to respond "immediately and effectively" to any new attack. Axios journalist Barak Ravid reported the official's statement on X, saying Trump could resort to drastic measures if he feels humiliated or loses influence. The official also advised Iran not to delay, calling this the best time to reach a deal. Qatari mediators held talks in Tehran on Friday lasting over 12 hours, continuing in Doha on Saturday, attempting to restore direct US-Iran dialogue and prevent renewed war after US elections. The Wall Street Journal reported the US warned Gulf Arab states of possible short but intense military operations against Iran, with Trump leaning toward major strikes but not yet deciding. Iran has threatened to attack internet cables and data centers in Gulf states, while Khamenei demanded an "immediate and effective response without geographical limits" for "maximum deterrence" during an unusual meeting with top commanders.
