US responds to Iran's offer to end seven-month war

Iran confirmed Wednesday it received an official US response to its proposal to end the seven-month war, days after President Donald Trump publicly rejected the offer. Officials did not disclose the response's contents. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented the reply to President Masoud Pezeshkian at a Cabinet meeting. Tehran's proposal included reopening the Strait of Hormuz within a week in exchange for lifted port blockades, released frozen assets, and waived oil sanctions. The US Treasury announced new sanctions Tuesday targeting ten individuals and entities in Iran, Hong Kong, and Pakistan over military procurement. Iran's rial hit a record low of 2.5 million to the dollar, and two men were executed for January protest violence.
