Iran threatens Middle East strikes while awaiting US response on Hormuz plan

Iran threatened Tuesday to strike Middle East infrastructure if its security is compromised, while awaiting Washington's official response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. US President Donald Trump has already rejected Tehran's offer, but Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he expects an official American reply via Qatari mediators, possibly within the day. Indirect US-Iran talks resumed last week at the UN General Assembly after over seven months of conflict. Iran's chief negotiator Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned Washington and its allies that if Iran cannot sell oil, no one else will, and no infrastructure will be safe without security guarantees. Iran has locked the strategic strait since the war began February 28, while Washington imposes a naval blockade on Iranian ports.
