Iran receives U.S. response to proposal on ending war

Iran has received an official U.S. response to its latest proposal to end the seven-month war, though officials have not disclosed whether it was an acceptance or rejection. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi presented the response to President Masoud Pezeshkian at a Cabinet meeting, following his return from U.N. talks in New York. The proposal included reopening the Strait of Hormuz in exchange for lifted sanctions and frozen assets, which President Trump had publicly rejected days earlier. Mediators continue efforts to broker a deal despite Trump's rebuff. Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury imposed new sanctions on Iran-linked entities, and Iran's currency hit a record low of over 2.5 million rials to the dollar. Two men were also executed over protest-related violence.
