Shipping firm cracks the code, sails through Hormuz under Iran's nose
Saudi Arabia has resumed exporting 6 million barrels of oil per day despite Iran's blockade of three critical oil arteries, including the Strait of Hormuz, according to research firm Kpler. This comes as shipping companies have found ways to bypass the blockade. South Korean shipping company Sinokor has circumvented the blockade by turning off radar systems and transferring oil from ship to ship outside the Strait of Hormuz. US strikes on Iranian detection systems in early September enabled this strategy, though shipping costs have tripled to over $1.2 million per day. Chinese oil imports are recovering, with refineries increasing production from 5 million to 7 million barrels daily. However, experts warn Iran may escalate tensions before US midterm elections, as its leverage diminishes and fuel prices remain near record highs.
