Iran expects US response Tuesday after Qatar-mediated talks, FM says

Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi confirmed that Iranian negotiators have been in contact with Qatari mediators and expect a response from the United States on Tuesday. The indirect talks took place in New York, where Tehran presented its plan to resolve the crisis and reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Araqchi stated that Qatar's mediators proposed new ideas during their latest meeting to help bridge differences, and these ideas are being transmitted to Washington. An Iranian official added that the negotiations do not cover Tehran's nuclear program, with Iran's position on that issue remaining unchanged. US President Donald Trump confirmed on Monday that the American side held mediated talks with Iranians. The discussions follow Iran's trip to the UN General Assembly in New York, where it sought to demonstrate to the international community that it has a plan regarding the crisis.
