Iran receives US response to proposal for ending seven-month war

Iranian officials confirmed Wednesday they received an official U.S. response to Tehran's proposal to end the seven-month war, though its contents were not disclosed. The response was presented to President Masoud Pezeshkian at a Cabinet meeting, following Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi's return from U.N. talks in New York. The proposal included conditions for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, such as lifting a U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, releasing frozen assets, and waiving oil sanctions. President Trump had publicly rejected the offer days earlier, but mediators continued facilitating indirect talks between the two sides. Meanwhile, the U.S. Treasury imposed new sanctions Tuesday targeting individuals and entities in Iran, Hong Kong, and Pakistan over alleged military supply chain facilitation. Iran's currency hit a record low of 2.5 million rials to the dollar, and two men were executed Wednesday for roles in January anti-government protests.
