The US and Iran held separate talks with mediators on Monday to renew efforts to end a seven-month war, following Iran's ceasefire proposal that President Donald Trump rejected but signaled further negotiations this week. Iran's seven-day plan proposes ending hostilities, unfreezing assets, lifting sanctions and the US blockade, in exchange for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and resuming nuclear talks. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said Tehran awaits Washington's definitive response before deciding next steps. The war began in late February with US and Israeli attacks on Iran, killing thousands and disrupting global oil markets. Two previous ceasefires, in April and June, quickly collapsed. Trump said Saturday he rejected the proposal due to Iran's economic pressure but expects talks this week.
