Iran awaits US response after Qatar-mediated talks

Iran is awaiting a US response after Qatar-mediated indirect talks in New York, following President Donald Trump's rejection of Tehran's peace proposal, Iran's foreign minister said Tuesday. Abbas Araghchi told state news agency Irna that Iran's delegation met Qatari mediators Monday to "pave the way" for conditions, after Trump rejected Tehran's plan over the weekend. Iran proposed reopening the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and resuming nuclear talks in exchange for the US lifting its naval blockade, suspending oil sanctions, and restoring a ceasefire. Following Trump's rejection, Iran resubmitted its "seven-point plan" and Araghchi insisted Tehran's positions on the strait and nuclear issues remain unchanged. The US-Israel war against Iran enters its eighth month at an impasse, with Iran attacking US-linked targets across the Middle East and disrupting shipping through the strait.
