Iran's Revolutionary Guard urges US protests as rial hits record low

Iran's Revolutionary Guard has urged Americans to protest against President Donald Trump, claiming his Middle East war has failed, as Iran's currency plunged to a record low of over 2.5 million rials per U.S. dollar on Tuesday. Gen. Hossein Mohebbi, the Guard's spokesman, read a "letter to the American people" at a news conference, asserting the war will only end when Washington admits defeat and withdraws all forces from the region. He accused the U.S. of using Iran's nuclear program as a pretext to plunder the country's wealth and turn it into a colony. The rial's previous record low was 2.2 million to the dollar on Sept. 2, with the currency repeatedly hitting new lows since the conflict began in February. Mohebbi also said Americans should "revise their decision" about their leaders.
