Iran expects US response Tuesday on Strait of Hormuz proposal

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, in New York, said he expects a formal US response on Tuesday to Tehran's proposal for reopening the Strait of Hormuz, according to official media. Araghchi said Qatari mediators discussed ideas and will raise the matter again with the US side, after which the final American response will be conveyed. He added that Qataris hope this will happen by Tuesday local time, with the current focus exclusively on the strait. Iran has set preconditions for ending its closure of the strait, including a seven-day ceasefire across the Middle East, the release of Iranian assets abroad, lifting sanctions on its oil sector, and ending the US naval blockade.
