Iran Awaits US Response to Peace Plan After Qatar-Brokered Talks

Iran's foreign minister said Tuesday that Tehran awaits a US response after indirect talks via Qatari mediators in New York, following President Donald Trump's rejection of its peace proposal over the weekend. Abbas Araghchi told state news agency Irna that Monday's meeting with Qatari mediators aimed to "open the way" for conditions, after Iran presented a seven-point plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and resume nuclear talks, in exchange for lifting the naval blockade, oil sanctions, and restoring a ceasefire. Araghchi insisted Iran's positions remain unchanged, and any US response would be relayed through Qatar for a decision in Tehran. The US-Israel war against Iran, now in its eighth month, remains deadlocked, with Iran continuing occasional attacks on tankers in the strait.
