Iran awaits US response after indirect talks in New York

Iran's foreign minister said Tuesday he awaits a US response after indirect talks via Qatari mediators in New York, aimed at reaching a deal to end the war. Abbas Araghchi told state news agency Irna that Monday's meeting with Qatari mediators followed President Donald Trump's rejection of Tehran's peace proposal. Iran presented a seven-point plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days and resume nuclear talks, in exchange for lifting the naval blockade, suspending oil sanctions, and restoring a ceasefire. Araghchi insisted Iran's positions on the strait and nuclear program remain unchanged, with any decision in Tehran based on the US reply. The eight-month US-Israeli war remains deadlocked, with Iran attacking regional US bases and tankers in the strait.
