Xi arrives in Washington for first US visit in three years
Chinese President Xi Jinping has arrived in the US for a three-day state visit, landing at a military airfield near Washington on Wednesday evening local time. Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan were received by US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania. The leaders exchanged brief remarks, received flowers from children, and observed a military ceremony featuring B1 bomber flyovers. Key discussion topics include trade disputes, AI security, and global conflicts such as the Iran war and Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Trump has scheduled an extensive program through Friday, including a military parade and state banquet. This marks Xi's first US trip since 2023, when he attended the APEC summit in California and met then-President Joe Biden. Trump extended the invitation during his visit to Beijing in mid-May.
