U.S. and China extend trade truce as Xi visits Trump

The U.S. and China have extended their trade truce by two months, with a new Jan. 10 deadline, as Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in the U.S. for his first state visit in eleven years. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced the extension, saying he was unsure if a larger deal could be reached. Xi and his wife landed at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday, where President Donald Trump greeted them on the tarmac. Trump became the first U.S. president in roughly six decades to receive a foreign counterpart at that airport, excluding papal visits. The truce extension aims to keep tariffs down between the world's largest economies.
