Trump and Xi to Discuss AI in Washington Meeting

President Trump said Thursday that artificial intelligence will be the major topic of his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Washington, stating he wants to keep the technology "exactly where it is." The two leaders are meeting for bilateral talks on Thursday. Trump made the remarks on Truth Social, saying "Superintelligence (SI) will be a big topic of discussion" and that the Department of Justice serves as the safeguard. The meeting comes as both nations compete fiercely in AI development, with Trump expressing concern that China could surpass the US in the field, while China has warned that foreign forces achieving superior AI capabilities could threaten Communist Party dominance. The visit includes a troop review, reception, and dinner Thursday, followed by a tea ceremony hosted by Melania Trump and a visit to the National Archives on Friday before Xi returns to Beijing. Taiwan arms sales are also expected to be discussed, with China likely to raise the 1982 joint communiqué regarding gradual reduction of US arms sales to Taiwan.
