Xi and Trump meet in Washington, pledging partnership

Chinese President Xi Jinping said upon arriving in Washington that China and the US should be "partners, not rivals," expressing confidence the two nations can find a way to get along in the new era. US President Donald Trump and his wife Melania greeted Xi and his wife Peng Liyuan at Joint Base Andrews on Wednesday. In a written arrival speech, Xi said both countries are "great" with deeply intertwined interests, adding that China's rejuvenation and making America great again can proceed together. This is Xi's first trip to Washington since 2015, with talks expected to cover trade tariffs, technology, military ties, and other issues. Trump's personal airport welcome was the first for a foreign leader since 1962, signaling the visit's importance. Xi noted he and Trump agreed in May to build a constructive relationship of strategic stability, and he looks forward to deepening exchanges and cooperation across various fields.
