Trump says fresh Iran strikes possible before midterms

US President Donald Trump said Sunday that fresh US military strikes against Iran before the midterm elections are possible, while predicting the conflict will end soon and oil prices will fall sharply. He declined to rule out further action, citing progress through both military and economic pressure. Trump claimed Iran's economy and military have been severely weakened, and that the US is "winning it very big." He expects negotiations with Tehran this week, though he said Iran's latest proposal falls short of Washington's demands. A US defence official confirmed 22 million barrels of oil moved through the Strait of Hormuz on Friday night. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tehran remains open to dialogue and is prepared to discuss nuclear limits and inspector access, but wants assurances the US is not seeking regime change. Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran is ready for renewed fighting or diplomacy, leaving the choice to Trump.
